He really shouldn't be surprised, and even then, he should've been able to hide his reaction. Soul-reading was nothing new to him; angels did it to each other and other things all the time. When you technically don't have facial expressions or even a traditional face, it would be kind of impossible to be able to tell what was going on with your siblings without being able to read their Grace. But that was then; this was now and a completely different situation. He felt inexplicably annoyed at the intrusion. There were things Balthazar didn't want his brother to see, so he guessed he was lucky it was only a surface reading.

Still, though, even without resorting to reading into him, from the expression on Balthazar's face even the densest human could tell that he was vaguely disturbed.
