He, of course, figured the writing had been forged somehow. If these people did have the technology to take people as he believed, forgery would be a simple enough matter.

"I suppose all we can really do is see what there is to see, hmm? Poke around a bit, see what's in the library, that sort of thing." Information gathering wasn't something the Doctor minded doing, at least not much.
