Today is the first day of the rest of your lives [ opening post ]

WHO: EVERYONE. NPCs will be around to actively engage if you so desire.
WHAT: Sleepers wake and begin to figure out just what, exactly, they are supposed to do with themselves. tl;dr: REACTION POST for new characters to get out and mingle.
WHERE: Everywhere. Mostly the living quarters, but really: anywhere you want.
WHEN: The first week, April 1st through April 7th.
WARNINGS: Travis Touchdown (Ryan LeCourt) has quite a mouth on him.
NOTES: This is a serious game, guys. WE’RE SUPER SRS HERE. This may be a lie.

Shimmering blue blanketed the underground city as the light reflected off the sapphires in the ceiling. It cast its eerie glow, almost mimicking the effect of light on water without the sort of freeing peace one might feel with the soft ocean waves. Figuring out how deep down the city was located was near impossible when the air was obviously heated to something approaching comfortable, and nothing seemed to echo too far past the quiet hum of the city.

Workers made their way down the street, every one with a Sleeper in tow. Something that would have been unheard of only a few days ago, now more likely than one would think. They intended to start slow, but considering how many others were still in cryo, this was a laidback pace.

He turned only slightly in response to the exclamation, hands remaining pushed deep into his pockets, posture loose and relaxed as it had been from the start despite the potential for violence that seemed to edge the other man's voice and the gleam of the katana in his hand. He wasn't concerned, and not only because - regardless of what he'd been told - he still believed himself to be the person 'in his dreams', and therefore remained confident in his own abilities to extricate himself from adverse situations should need be. He hadn't done anything wrong after all. Not yet.

His lips curved into a smile that could easily pass for friendly as the guy approached, and he gave a dismissive little shrug by way of response. "I'm just looking. There's no need for concern."
knifedances: (let's do it)

The smile wasn't lost on him, even if the meaning behind it was a little less than clear, and while his gaze may not have seemed to be overtly focused in that direction, he was certainly paying attention to what the other man was doing with his hands. Still, he maintained the opinion that right now he had nothing to be concerned about. The friendly smile remained in place, though he had to wonder just how much information any of the Workers had on so called 'Sleepers' like him, whether he knew enough to see through his feigned innocence. It was a little disconcerting, being in a position of relative ignorance compared to what he was accustomed to, but just as with everything else he's encountered since waking up here, he didn't intend to let it affect him.

"Yoohoos?" he raised a questioning brow, clearly unfamiliar with the term, "and sure, for our own protection no doubt. Is it really so bad out there?"
knifedances: (but the prettiest dickhead)

"You're calling me a stupid foreigner?" though the words were followed by a ripple of soft laughter that clearly suggested he wasn't offended; it was hardly the worst thing he'd ever been called - at least in the dream-life, the only one he could remember - and he'd never much cared about what people thought of him. "You're not fond of the Sleepers, perhaps."

He said it as a statement rather than a question, despite not knowing how much truth there was to that. He shrugged again and turned a little to focus his attention on the entrance to the Cave, though he kept the guy in his peripheral field of vision, just in case. He'd said he looked Northern, something that tallied with the information about his so-called true self, but while he felt a mild temptation to ask questions about the place he'd supposedly been born in, he decided to let it slide for now. There were other ways of obtaining that kind of information without having to ask, after all.

"So it's dangerous. And yet, at some point or another we will be expected to go out there, right?"

And again, it was still a milder form of interpersonal interaction than he'd often come across in the past; he wasn't the kind of person to take offense easily, and regardless of whether his former life had been a dream, it seemed that still stood to be the case right now. "All bets are off, huh? So I guess I'd better make sure to behave. What would you consider 'getting in your way'? Just so I know, for future reference."

He threw a more overt glance in the other guy's direction, then. "You're expecting our memories to return, or you're just planning to prepare us for whatever's so big and bad about the world out there?"
knifedances: (don't make me laugh)

He returned the grin with a deceptively bright smile of his own, rocking back on his heels a little as he answered. "Then I guess I'll make sure not to do that, then."

The the truth of the matter was he had little inclination to 'misbehave' just yet, not when he was still trying to make sense of the situation. He had few qualms when it came to breaking rules or of stepping outside socially acceptable boundaries, but he'd like to be clear on what risks he would be taking, first.

"And I guess that's okay. I like surprises," and he laughed again, "at least, I think I do."

"That's one less thing for me to worry about, then," and he observed the gradual loosening of the other man's posture, smile stretching a little wider in response. He considered it best to make himself seem as innocuous as possible; the more harmless he seemed the more he'd be likely to get away with at a later date. At least, that's how he intended to approach things for the moment.

"It's probably just as well, right? I expect I'll be facing a good number of them in the coming weeks."
knifedances: (my sisters are NC-17)

Though the reality of the situation was that he wasn't worried at all; he was confused and disoriented sure, but he was also a little curious. He may not have believed that this was his 'real' life, but it wasn't every day he found himself in a situation such as this, and so he may as well make the most of it while he's here.

"I'm pretty sure I can deal with it. Humans are nothing if not adaptable, after all, though some are of course more adaptable than others."
knifedances: (let's talk business)

[personal profile] knifedances 2012-04-05 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
"That's the way I see it. And here we are, survivors of some great disaster, needing to re-build our world. It should be interesting to discover how people cope."

So he didn't believe that his 'dream' life was a lie and that his current reality was all he'd ever truly known in a physical sense, but that was no reason not to play along until he was in a better position to research it more fully. That, and his interest was honest enough; he couldn't imagine that everyone who woke up to this story would deal with it as calmly as he had; the results on their mental state could be interesting, as far as he was concerned.
knifedances: (don't make me laugh)

[personal profile] knifedances 2012-04-08 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
The other man's response elicited a short ripple of laughter from Izaya, and he nodded. He could think of more entertaining reactions himself, but that wasn't the kind of thing you share with a perfect stranger. Or anyone who couldn't be trusted, which constituted most people.

"I'm sure it'd make your day more interesting, if nothing else."
knifedances: (and I told her oh please)

[personal profile] knifedances 2012-04-08 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
A response that caused him to turn more fully in the other man's direction once again, smile stretching just a little wider. "I'm sorry I disappointed you then, in that case."
knifedances: (god you are so dumb)

[personal profile] knifedances 2012-04-08 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"It seems likely that at least one person will try slipping out before the month is over" his eyes followed the direction of the other man's hand as it slid to the hilt of his sword, and he shrugged, "I'd say I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, but I'm not sure that'd be appropriate."

It might be fun to watch, however.
knifedances: (you are so entertaining)

He wasn't an inherently violent man, not in the conventional sense, and it was rare for him to commit an act of physical aggression against another person, but that didn't mean he was unable to take enjoyment from observing as humans fought among themselves, or better yet, when they fought thanks to his subtle manipulations in the background. He loved humans and therefore wanted to learn everything there was to know about them, and their base and ugly emotions often interested him most of all.

Still, the smile he gave in response to the other man's words could only be described as pleasant.
