WHO: EVERYONE. All PCs thus far will be in this log, through active tagging or implication.
WHAT: THRILLS. SPILLS. Hiking trip toward the Diamond City.
WHERE: The Overworld.
WHEN: Forward-dated to May 1st (Tuesday) through May 7th (Monday).
WARNINGS: May contain violence or other mentions of physical harm. This is not summer camp.
NOTES: More information can be found on the OOC post here. Please read it!
Gathered in the morning haze, Sleepers were brought to the mouth of the Cave with plenty of supplies and equipment. Compasses that would point them toward the City. Backpacks full of clothes and food, medical kits, tents and even weapons. Stun rifles and knives — to fight off any unwanted company, they said. ("Watch out for their bite," Ryan had commented. "Those fuckers are downright feral.") The straight and narrow path would get them there in six days if they kept a good clip. They were sent off just like that. Refusals to leave were met with a wall of guard force officers blocking the entrance back into the cave city. No way to go but forward, unless someone was particularly stalwart about remaining.
From the exterminator's station near the mouth, leaving the Cave was as simple as a short hike upward into the fresh air of the Overworld. Dust and an uncomfortable sort of heat pervaded the atmosphere, light winds stirring up the sand and teasing the meager bits of vegetation that had grown. No matter what direction you looked... it was all wasteland, cracked ground and desolate emptiness. Jutting up from scarred ground were boulders and small spires made entirely of glass and patches of stone; instead of reflecting the harsh sunlight, they seemed to absorb it and only add to the muted loneliness of the atmosphere. As far as the eye could see, there was no life to be found.
With no other option, the Sleepers eventually made their way onward.

At first, he thought he was imagining the noise, something on the wind, like other sounds that had blown on through, but he stopped to strain his ears to listen. He felt it, a rhythm shocking through the ground up through his feet. And on the wind, a mechanical noise.
"Hold up!" he called out sharply, coming out much more an order than a suggestion. His weapon was at the ready. "Does anyone else hear that?"

He turned in the direction of Malcom's voice as he shouted out, coming to a restless standstill; his instinct when faced with a potential threat would always be to run, but he had no intention of cutting himself off from the rest of the group, not when hi survival skills in a wilderness like this were so completely abysmal.
"Sure, I here it."

Which wasn't good for anyone because apparently to the robot, finding the Sleepers meant it was going to start trying to mow them down with its blade. And that meant it was planning on starting with the obvious threats first, like Malcolm and anybody near him since he had his weapon out.

"Alas, it looks as though you spoke too soon," and he's already moving to leap smoothly out of the way, forcing his protesting limbs to obey him; he was no warrior, but at the very least he's accustomed to avoiding large and dangerous objects directed at his person.

It still seemed ridiculously surreal to find himself in a situation like this, but there was little point in thinking on that now, and he squeezed off a few rounds with the stun gun himself, aiming for the same area he's seen Malcolm shooting for. He'd rather be running, but leaving the group wasn't an option, not when remaining together held the highest percentage of survival.

He took the few steps required to reach Malcom's side, glancing about warily. "Indeed I do," he answered. How could anyone not? It was a sound one might least expect in a place like this. Unless, of course, the planet had been invaded by an alien race, and this was something of theirs looking to investigate signs of survivors. Not a good thought.
"We should find shelter," he suggested. Whatever it was, it could be dangerous, and he had to wonder how well stun guns would work against it if they did have to defend themselves.

"It's not some creature this time. It might even be worth checking out." But safety was a key out here, and given how unfriendly they were warned things could be, perhaps the old man's suggestion was to be heeded. Still, if there was someone coming who might be reasoned with, provide some safety, if there was something coming that might allow the caravan to rest their feet...
He slung his weapon back again. Whatever was coming, they'd find out shortly. Malcolm nodded to one of the jagged spires of glass (or whatever it was, as it didn't seem to have the same properties of normal Earth glass). "We can wait in the shade of one of those. See what's coming, hopefully before anything can see us."

The Doctor followed the direction of Malcolm's nod, giving one of his own in return. It was the most they could hope for, really, so he started picking his way towards the spires, ushering for anyone else nearby to follow suit.
